I found this in an e-mail forward. Everything I need to know about life, I learned from Noah and his Ark 1. Don’t miss the boat. 2. Remember that we are all in the same boat. 3. Plan ahead. It wasn’t raining when Noah built the Ark. 4. Stay fit. When you’re 600 years old, someone may ask you to do something really big. 5. Don’t listen to critics; just get on with the job that needs to be done. 6. Build your future on high ground. 7. For safety’s sake, travel in pairs. 8. Speed isn’t always an advantage. The snails were on board with the cheetahs. 9. When you’re stressed, float a while. 10. Remember, the Ark was built by amateurs; the Titanic by professionals. Hmm. Is this really the top 10 things we learn from Genesis 6:5-9:17? I remember watching some cartoon as a kid about Noah and the ark. There seemed to be this distinction between those who got on the boat and those who didn't. In fact, there seemed to be this idea that the ark was open to anyone who wanted to truly live, as if all they had to do was just get on the boat. But instead, they laughed at Noah. I have read through this story of Noah and this ark about 10 times in the past week. I cannot, for the life of me, find an open invitation to come along on this 40 day cruise. I don't even see Moses working while his neighbors came by and laughed as many of the cartoons and illustrations portray. The moral lesson in those old cartoons always seemed to say, "Be like Moses." But I'm not sure if that's what scripture is communicating. I mean, what did Moses actually do to disserve God's favor? Or did favor find Noah?
